A New Safety Standard For Window Covers
The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute is enforcing a new safety measure for window covering products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a standard that provides new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
As of June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the United States must meet this new safety standard. The bulk of products will change to cordless designs. Treatments with a continuous loop must include a compliant tension device to stop the loop from becoming a strangulation risk. These rules will notably reduce the possibility of window treatment cord injuries and deaths among young children.
