How To Measure Your Window For Shutters in Riverside
Indoor shutters in Riverside are often sold on a square foot basis, so to get an approximate measurement for a price estimate, simply measure your window height and width, to the closest ⅛ of an inch.

For Riverside residents who want to be more hands-on, we’ll show you the easiest way to measure your windows to be fitted for plantation shutters.
Measuring Rectangular and Square Windows for Shutters
Typical rectangular windows sound like the easiest kind of windows to measure – and that’s because they are, compared to other uniquely shaped windows. But there’s still an entire process to go through to get measurements. Here’s the plan.
The Tools That You Need:
-
Metal tape measure
-
Pen and paper
Starting off, measure the width (the horizontal distance). Measure across in three separate spots: in the center, near the top, and near the bottom of the pane. Write down all of them, rounding to the nearest ⅛ of an inch. After that, measure the height (vertical) – take three measurements, one in the middle, and one near either edge of your window as seen below.

You want to measure in three places both ways because no window is an absolutely perfect square. And because you might need a specific mount for your window, you may either need to record the smallest measurement (inside mount), or the absolute largest measurement (for an outside mount). Taking measurements in multiple places helps make sure your bases are covered.
Measuring Specialty Shaped Windows for Shutters
Windows that aren’t rectangular are the windows that can present a challenge to measure. Just as there’s no perfect square window, there’s no such thing as a perfect octagon, circle, or arched window – which means that even if you get perfect measurements, you could still have issues. For the best results, get measurements taken by a professional (which Sunburst is happy to provide absolutely free). Other than that, here’s how to measure the most common unique-shaped windows for shutters.
How to Measure Rounded and Arch Windows for Shutters
Measure the width on the window’s flat side. Only measuring around the window opening, record to the nearest ⅛ of an inch the width of the arch. To find the length, look for the window’s midpoint by dividing the width measurement in half, then measure to the end of the rounded part of the window from that spot. Again, record to the closest ⅛ of an inch.
Measuring Elongated Arch Windows
Elongated arch windows are kind of a cross between a circular or rectangular, with a flat, wide bottom and straight “legs,” but with rounded corners at the top and a higher arch. So attack it exactly as that: an arch and a rectangle put together. Measure the width just like you would any other arch, then record the length of the legs (the straight vertical parts before the window curves into an arch). After that, measure the max length of the window from the center, minus the height of the legs. Like always, write down all of these to the nearest ⅛ of an inch.
Measuring Octagon and Circular Windows
Circular and octagonal windows are some of the trickiest to find measurements, because there can be so many small details that can alter the shutter dimensions you might need. It’s usually best to leave these types of windows to a professional.
